Why Tennessee?
Whether you know Tennessee as home or have been fortunate to visit, you have felt how unique a place this state is. The ancient Blue Ridge Mountains make up the eastern boundary, the mighty Mississippi to the west. The eastern mountains, the central hills and the western plains create three distinct bioregions that are celebrated by recreationalist, tourists, residents and prospecting businesses. The biodiversity of the state is rivaled by few places in the world. The history and cultural is just as revered. American history was defined here and it continues to be celebrated. Memorials of native conflicts, war and segregation remind us that we are not perfect but that we can mend our ways. The folksy sounds of blues, early rock and roll and country music that sound city streets and continue to inspire tomorrow's stars. And now it is not only what we hear but also what we see. The visual arts have found a home in the country's 16th state.
Industry in Tennessee has flourished and it has fallen. Booms in the 60s brought prosperity but left the air black and the water polluted. Soon after, trying times pushed investment away and the state was left with both pollution and economic disparity.
Today, investment and opportunity has returned. Tennessee is 17th largest state by population and the nation's 14th fastest growing. This growth is welcomed, yet lessons of the past still loom. Foresight and vision will be critical as we create a future that is both prosperous and sustainable for both citizens and the environment. As sustainability becomes a larger priority for our business leaders and our elected leaders, creativity, ingenuity, innovation and inspiration become critical to this vision.
At WAP Sustainability, we are here to help your business and community tap into the inspiration of sustainability.
